How Florida Bug Control Handles Birds
- Trapping: live traps baited with food and water reduce the number of pigeons, house sparrows or European starlings at a site. Most native birds are protected by federal law, so trapping is limited to unprotected species.
- Exclusion: netting, spikes and similar barriers keep birds off roofs, ledges, courtyards, parking garages and balconies. Netting comes in colors that blend in, and we close off the openings birds use to get inside.
- Take away what draws birds in:
- Block or change roosting and nesting spots
- Clear trash out of shrubs
- Fill holes and low spots that hold water
- Keep stored materials at least 12 inches off the ground
- Clean and disinfect: after the birds leave, remove droppings and nest debris and disinfect surfaces. Wet them first to keep dust down, and wear gloves and a mask.
