Pest Control in Lake City, FL

Pest Control in Lake City, FL

Lake City is the county seat of Columbia County, where I-75 and I-10 meet in North Central Florida. Florida Bug Control provides residential and commercial pest control for homes and businesses in and around Lake City.

How Lake City’s Crossroads and Lakes Shape Pest Problems

Lake City sits where Interstate 75 and Interstate 10 meet, and that traffic supports a busy strip of hotels, restaurants, truck stops and warehouses near the interchanges and along US 90. Food waste, dumpsters, pallets and loading docks are exactly what Norway rats look for, and they burrow along building foundations, under slabs and in overgrown lots behind commercial strips. Rat activity climbs in late fall, when cooler nights push them from the outdoors into buildings.

The town is also built around water. Lake DeSoto sits beside downtown and the courthouse, Alligator Lake lies on the southeast side of town, and smaller lakes, retention ponds and wetlands are scattered through the neighborhoods. All of them feed summer mosquito hatches after the rainy season starts in June. East of town, the Osceola National Forest covers a huge stretch of pine flatwoods and swamp, and homes near its edge see more ticks than most of the county, especially in spring.

Areas We Serve In and Around Lake City

We treat homes and businesses across Lake City, from the older neighborhoods around downtown and Lake DeSoto to the subdivisions along US 90, US 41 and US 441, the area around Lake City Gateway Airport and Florida Gateway College, and homes out toward the Osceola National Forest. In southern Columbia County we cover Fort White and the countryside near Ichetucknee Springs State Park. Nearby, we also serve Wellborn, Live Oak, White Springs and Gainesville.

Rat-Proofing a Business Near the Interstate

• Keep dumpster lids closed and the pad swept, and ask your hauler to replace dumpsters with rusted-out drain holes.
• Fit loading and back doors with brush or rubber sweeps, and keep them shut between deliveries.
• Store pallets and stock off the floor and a foot away from walls so burrows and droppings are easy to spot.
• Cut weeds and brush along the back of the building, where rats like to travel under cover.

Rivers, springs, farmland and wooded lots make this part of North Florida a busy place for pests. Fire ants build mounds in yards and pastures, mosquitoes breed near the river and low ground after rain, ticks wait in tall grass and woods, and mice and rats move into homes and barns when nights turn cool.
