Commercial Mosquito Control

Florida Bug Control service van

No animal causes more human illness and death worldwide than the mosquito, because of the diseases it carries. Several species have also grown very comfortable in cities and suburbs, breeding in gutters, planters, storm drains and the clutter around commercial buildings.

A professional program can bring mosquito numbers down sharply at a business, but nobody can honestly promise that customers or employees will never be bitten again, or that no one will ever catch a mosquito-borne illness. Mosquitoes fly in from neighboring properties, and weather plays a big role. The aim of this service is a steady, noticeable drop in mosquito activity, tracked through inspection and follow-up visits.

Every service starts with a conversation. We ask where and when people are being bitten, then walk the property to confirm which mosquitoes are present and decide on a plan. The technician concentrates on the area around the reported bite sites, usually within about 100 feet, since many common species stay close to where they hatch. They look for:

  • Stagnant water – Ponds, retention areas, decorative fountains, drainage ditches and any other water that does not circulate.
  • Moisture conditions – Damp spots that hold small amounts of water, such as tree holes, gutters, planter saucers, sunken sprinkler heads, low flowerbeds and heavily shaded ground.
  • Resting sites – Sheltered, humid places where adults wait out the day, including the undersides of leaves in thick plantings beside the building, covered walkways, patios and eaves.

Everything the technician finds is written down, and you are welcome to walk along during the inspection. The technician then sketches a simple site map showing breeding areas, resting areas and where each treatment will go.

  • Resting site treatment: A sprayer set to a fine droplet size applies an insecticide labeled for mosquitoes to the shaded surfaces and dense plants where adults rest.
  • Bite zone treatment: Areas within about 10 feet of where people are getting bitten are treated from ground level up to roughly 3 to 5 feet high, using a longer-lasting formulation applied with a hand or backpack sprayer.
  • Breeding site treatment, with larvicide and pupicide options that can be rotated from visit to visit to keep the program working.

Option #1 Where moisture collects but there is little standing water, the technician applies a light dusting of granules containing an insect growth regulator, which keeps larvae from developing into biting adults. Typical spots are tree holes, plant saucers, gutters full of debris and low sprinkler heads. All products are applied according to the label.

Option #2 On standing water such as ponds, ditches, retention basins and tree holes, a small amount of a surface film product is added at one or two points. It spreads thinly across the water and keeps larvae and pupae from breathing at the surface, so they die before they can emerge. Applied according to the label.

Option #3 For containers and other standing water, slow-release larvicide dunks are floated on the surface. They contain a naturally occurring bacterium that larvae swallow while feeding, and it destroys their gut. Applied according to the label.
