Pest Control in Monticello, FL

Pest Control in Monticello, FL

Monticello is the county seat of Jefferson County, a historic small town east of Tallahassee surrounded by farmland, pecan groves and woods. Florida Bug Control provides residential and commercial pest control for homes and businesses in and around Monticello.

What Makes Pest Control Different in Monticello

Monticello’s historic district is full of houses that are well over a century old, many with tall attics, original chimneys, wide porches and big shade trees leaning over the roof. Those trees, especially the pecans and live oaks the area is known for, give roof rats an easy highway onto the shingles. Once up there, they slip into gaps at the soffits, around chimney flashing or through old attic vents. Fall is the busiest time: as pecans drop from September into November, rats and squirrels feed heavily in yards and then look for a warm attic to stay in when nights turn cold.

The water around Jefferson County shapes the summer season. Lake Miccosukee sits on the county’s western edge, the spring-fed Wacissa River runs through the south end, and the Aucilla River marks the line with Madison County. Cypress swamps and low wet areas between them hold water after summer storms, and mosquitoes breed there quickly, then drift into town on calm evenings. Shady yards with birdbaths, old cisterns, planters and clogged gutters keep them going right through the end of the rainy season.

Areas We Serve In and Around Monticello

We serve homes around the courthouse circle where US 90 and US 19 meet, the streets near the Monticello Opera House, and the farms and pecan groves spread across the county. Our service area also includes Lloyd, Lamont, Wacissa and Aucilla, along with the neighborhoods off I-10. To the west is Tallahassee, and to the east along US 90 is Greenville, with our Madison office just beyond it.

Protecting a Historic Monticello Home

Trim tree limbs so they stay at least six to eight feet from the roofline, which takes away the rats’ easiest route. Have chimney caps and attic vent screens checked before pecan season, since older vents often have rusted or torn mesh. Rake up fallen nuts regularly through the fall so they do not become a steady food supply near the house.

The Big Bend has a mix of pine forest, wetlands and small towns, and that mix brings plenty of pests. Mosquitoes breed in low, wet ground, fire ants and ticks are common in yards and wooded lots, and cockroaches and rodents look for shelter indoors through the cooler months.
