Florida Carpenter Ant Behavior
These ants like warm, damp spots and often nest in or beside buildings where wood or insulation stays wet. They forage mostly at night. They are more of a nuisance than a serious threat, but a steady stream of them indoors usually means a nest is nearby.
Their size makes them hard to miss. Florida carpenter ants rank among the biggest ants in the state, and people notice them both on the ground and when the winged ants fly. The head and thorax run from rusty orange to brownish, the abdomen is black, and the body is covered in fairly long golden brown hairs.
