Pest Control in Branford, FL

Pest Control in Branford, FL

Branford is a small town in Suwannee County on the Suwannee River, in the middle of North Florida’s springs country. Florida Bug Control provides residential and commercial pest control for homes and businesses in and around Branford.

Springs, Floods and Pests in Branford

Branford grew up where US 27 crosses the Suwannee River, and the town still revolves around the water. Branford Spring sits by the bridge, Little River Springs and Troy Spring are a short drive away, and the Santa Fe River joins the Suwannee near town. Slow river water, spring runs and cypress backwaters give mosquitoes steady breeding sites from spring well into fall, and after a stretch of summer rain the biting along the riverbank at dusk can be intense.

The river’s floods shape the rest of the pest picture. When the Suwannee climbs out of its banks, fire ant colonies do not drown. They link together into floating rafts and resettle on whatever dry ground they reach, including porch steps, raised decks, stilt-house stairways and parts of the yard that never had mounds before. Rats are pushed out of the low ground at the same time and move into river cabins, boathouses and storage sheds, where they often stay long after the water goes down.

Where We Serve In and Around Branford

We treat homes and businesses in town, river cabins and stilt homes along the Suwannee, and farm properties out US 129 toward O’Brien, McAlpin and Live Oak. We also cross the river on US 27 into Lafayette County, including Mayo, so riverfront owners on either bank are covered.

Checking for Fire Ants After High Water

• Once the river drops, look before you step: check steps, railings, deck boards and anything left on the ground, where displaced colonies gather.
• If you find a floating or clustered mass of ants, do not touch it; ants from a raft sting all at once.
• Move debris piles and flood-soaked lumber away from the house, since new colonies settle under them.
• Treat new mounds early, before the colonies have time to grow over the summer.

Rivers, springs, farmland and wooded lots make this part of North Florida a busy place for pests. Fire ants build mounds in yards and pastures, mosquitoes breed near the river and low ground after rain, ticks wait in tall grass and woods, and mice and rats move into homes and barns when nights turn cool.
